Arguments against legalization: difficult to educate drug abstinence
important thing is to focus the efforts of the society in the work of education and prevention. We must show our children that drugs are bad, they do not solve problems and that there are healthier choices for fun and relaxation. In this sense, legalizing would send a contradictory message: how can we teach them that drugs are harmful if they are sold freely? How can we make them go away from them if they are easily and legally available? For education and prevention work is necessary to keep the police crackdown on its production and sales.
education and information are essential for exercising our freedom. But the information should not be that our institutions spreading lies and half truths with the laudable goal of "instilling fear" and prevent tragedies. Not all drugs are equal. There are drugs that kill but the use made of them. Ban the situation only worsens the health problems arising from their use. In any case, I believe that minors should not use drugs. But think of the irony of pursuing policing the adult who uses marijuana while allowing children of 16 are sold alcohol.
To teach responsibility, it requires freedom. In his book "The Value of Education", Savater reminds us: "In school can only teach the responsible use of freedom, not to advise students to refrain from it." And I add that we can never teach children to be responsible for their actions if we insist on treating adults like children. Now that's a mixed message, as well as totalitarianism.
